Our program for Pre/Post natal women is based around you the individual.
In order to decide if Pilates is right for you right now, during your pregnancy you will want to take a number of things into consideration.
Firstly answering a few questions here may help you to decide or know if Pilates while Pregnant is right for you.
Did you have a regular exercise routine prior to becoming pregnant?
Have you ever done Pilates or Yoga before, if yes how often?
If you have answered No to either of these questions you may want to consider postponing a new program at this time. Pilates will still be here for you when you have completed your Pregnancy.
It is NOT recommended to start any completely NEW exercise routine while Pregnant.
How far along are you in your pregnancy?
The first trimester is a no go zone. During this time your body is going through immense changes and adjustment to carry your child. Take this time to take it easy, take care of yourself by getting enough sleep and proper nutrition. It is a HUGE adjustment for your body and it will take time for you to start to feel at least a little bit normal.
In the second trimester you can re-start your regular fitness routine but with increased caution of course. Also with perhaps a little less intensity, be kind to your body during this time, now is not the time to try and be the supermodel that you are, it is very hard to allow yourself to gain weight and not be on top of it, but it is natural and if you are healthy and fit it will not be extremely difficult to take the weight off again after giving birth. If you are not as healthy or fit as you would like to be, that is ok too, it will more than likely be a challenge to return to your usual beautiful self, but you have to allow yourself the experience and to be happy in the moment no matter what weight you are at.
“You are beautiful, no matter what they say” Christina Aguilera
When you become Pregnant your body starts to release a hormone called Relaxin, this hormone “relaxes” all of the muscles and joints in the body. Therefore you may be able to go past your usual limitations when you are stretching or exercising. It is very important that you do not push your body past it’s usual abilities during this time. You may be extra thrilled that you can finally reach your toes, however if you have never been able to reach them before, this may be harmful for your body to be doing now.
Please take time to read and educate yourself about your Pregnancy and exercise. There are many resources out there. At Discover Birth one of our Affiliates, you can receive valuable and important information about Pregnancy through the courses they offer. Please visit their web site for further details on childbirth education.
Our Program consists of:
A FREE 30 min one-on-one consultation
Private Pilates and/or Yoga Sessions, Sessions of 5 Privates or Sessions of 10 Privates
During your first one hour private session we will provide you with information on contraindications for pregnant women and exercise. Some basic principles as guidelines and some exercises to try!
If you want to participate in any group classes we suggest you do a Private session first so we can show you the appropriate modifications you should be making when participating in a group environment.
Currently we do not offer a specific Pre or Post Natal group class as it is a specialized modality and there is not enough demand in this area to support a specialized class at this time. If you know of a group of women that are pregnant and would like to participate in a group together of friends or other, or you are an organization that would like to offer an option like this to your clients, please contact us and we can make arrangements to create a class just for your group, either at our location or yours! We would love to make this an option for you.
If you have any questions regarding exercising while you are Pregnant or would like to talk to someone regarding Pre/Post Natal Pilates or Yoga, please contact us!
